Rockets reunite with Boban on 1-year deal

The Houston Rockets are re-signing center Boban Marjanovic to a one-year deal, his agents told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The 7-foot-3 center landed on the Rockets in June 2022 as part of the package dealt by the Dallas Mavericks for big man Christian Wood. He played sparingly in Houston, appearing in 17 games and averaging 4.2 minutes. The Rockets waived him at the Feb. 9 trade deadline after sending Eric Gordon to the Los Angeles Clippers in a three-team swap.

However, after Houston subsequently opened roster spots by parting with Danny Green and John Wall, Houston signed Marjanovic, 35, to another contract for the rest of the season. He averaged 3.9 points and 2.4 rebounds during that second stint while playing 7.1 minutes per game in 14 appearances.

He will likely provide the club with a veteran presence and insurance depth behind a youthful frontcourt of Jabari Smith Jr., Alperen Sengun, Tari Eason, Jock Landale, and Jeff Green. Houston has been one of the most active franchises during this free-agency period, overhauling its roster by signing former All-Star guard Fred VanVleet and veteran wing Dillon Brooks to contracts worth a combined $210 million over seven seasons.

Marjanovic has tallied 5.6 points and 3.6 rebounds per game throughout his eight-year career. He had stints with the San Antonio Spurs, Detroit Pistons, Clippers, and Philadelphia 76ers before joining the Mavericks in 2019-20 for what amounted to three seasons.
