Report: Trail Blazers re-sign Knox to 1-year deal

The Portland Trail Blazers are bringing back Kevin Knox II on a one-year contract, sources told The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

Knox played 21 games and made four starts for the Trail Blazers in the second half of the 2022-23 campaign. He recorded 8.5 points – his best scoring average with one team since his rookie year with the New York Knicks – along with 3.3 rebounds per game while registering 17.1 minutes per contest.

The 24-year-old finished the season with Portland after landing on the club as a result of a three-team deal at the February trade deadline. That move sent Gary Payton II to the Golden State Warriors and center James Wiseman to the Detroit Pistons.

Amid Damian Lillard‘s request to be traded to the Miami Heat, Portland has been relatively quiet this offseason. The team’s most significant summer transaction has been re-signing forward Jerami Grant to a five-year, $160-million contract. The franchise also added touted and explosive young guard Scoot Henderson with the No. 3 selection in this year’s draft, though that arguably cast further doubt on Lillard’s future with the organization.

A former ninth overall pick in 2018, Knox spent three-and-a-half seasons in New York before being shipped to the Atlanta Hawks midway through the 2021-22 campaign.
