NBA fines T-Wolves' Edwards for striking 2 people with chair in playoff game

Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards was fined $50,000 for “recklessly swinging a chair in frustration” that struck two people in a late-April playoff game, the NBA announced.

The incident occurred at the end of Minnesota’s series-ending 112-109 Game 5 loss to the eventual champion Denver Nuggets in the first round of the playoffs. Edwards swung the chair running off the floor after missing a game-tying three at the buzzer.

Edwards was cited for assault by the Denver Police Department after the act. In accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, the league waited to review the matter until the criminal investigation was concluded.

The NBA’s statement confirms the charges were dismissed last month.

The first-time All-Star is currently training with the USA Basketball national team ahead of the World Cup later this month. The Timberwolves will be well represented, with Rudy Gobert (France), Kyle Anderson (China), Karl-Anthony Towns (Dominican Republic), and Nickeil Alexander-Walker (Canada) all competing in the event.
