Hornets sign P.J. Washington to 3-year, $48M contract

Charlotte Hornets restricted free agent P.J. Washington agreed to a new three-year, $48-million contract to stay with the franchise, his agents told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Washington averaged a career-high 15.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.1 blocks in 73 games for the Hornets this past season. He’s also a career 36.6% shooter from deep, knocking down two per game last season.

The 25-year-old was the last unsigned restricted free agent in the league. Washington could have signed a one-year, $8.5-million qualifying offer by Oct. 1 to enter unrestricted free agency next offseason.

Charlotte selected the former Kentucky forward with the No. 12 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.

The Hornets are in the midst of one of the busiest offseasons in franchise history after a disappointing 27-55 campaign. They drafted Alabama forward Brandon Miller second overall, and extended All-Star LaMelo Ball to a five-year, $260-million contract. Forward Miles Bridges also signed a one-year qualifying offer to enter unrestricted free agency next season.
