Bronny's cardiac arrest likely caused by heart defect, full recovery expected

A comprehensive evaluation determined that the “probable cause” of Bronny James’ cardiac arrest last month was an “anatomically and functionally significant congenital heart defect,” according to a statement from a James Family spokesperson obtained by ESPN’s Jeff Borzello.

The condition “can and will be treated,” per the family spokesperson.

Bronny, the son of Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, is expected to make a full recovery and return to basketball in the “very near future.”

The USC guard was taken to hospital exactly a month ago after he suffered a cardiac arrest during a team workout. He was in the intensive care unit but was later in stable condition.

A few days after the incident, LeBron posted a video of Bronny playing the piano.

Trojans head coach Andy Enfield recently shared some optimism regarding Bronny’s status.

“Bronny was playing extremely well before the issue,” Enfield told Stadium’s Jeff Goodman. “Our top concern is his health. We’re hopeful that he will be on the court at some point this season.”

Bronny is the 20th-ranked player on the ESPN 100 for 2023. The 18-year-old is part of a strong USC recruiting class headlined by No. 1 overall prospect Isaiah Collier.
