Bronny James in stable condition after suffering cardiac arrest during practice

Bronny James, the son of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, suffered a cardiac arrest during a practice Monday and was taken to the hospital, a family spokesperson said in a statement to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

The USC commit is no longer in the intensive care unit and is now in stable condition.

“LeBron and Savannah wish to publicly send their deepest thanks and appreciation to the USC medical and athletic staff for their incredible work and dedication to the safety of their athletes,” the statement said.

James, 18, committed to the Trojans on May 6 following vast speculation about his playing future. He is the eldest of the Lakers forward’s three children. His younger brother, Bryce James, 16, plays at Los Angeles’ Campbell Hall School.

He is the second incoming USC freshman to suffer a cardiac arrest at the team’s practice facility within the last year. Last September, Trojans forward Vincent Iwuchukwu revealed that he was out indefinitely after a similar scare in July 2022. The 7-foot big man eventually made his USC debut in January and played in 14 games for the Trojans.

Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin, who collapsed due to a cardiac arrest episode during an NFL game in January, took to social media to send well-wishes to the James family.
